L300687 which indicates that this tractor and perhaps the complete machine was built in 1933. This machine has complete hydraulic control of all functions of the blade. I would think that such hydraulic control would be unusual in 1933 so perhaps this grader was built sometime later than 1933.I suspect the tandem drive wheels were an option on this machine judging from the presence of a "Double Drive" serial number tag with the number RSA11208 on the top rear part of the left hand "Double Drive" drive housing. Please see the 7th photo of this listing to see this tag and number.
Please notice the last photo of this listing which shows the right angle hand crank adapter which lets the operator crank the engine from the right front corner of the tractor. As far as I can tell, the hand crank that slips onto the shaft of the right angle adapter is missing. It would not be difficult to make a crank to fit this right angle adapter.
I don not yet know the condition of the rear tires but the front tires look like new and are holding air. I find it very interesting that there are not one but two spares located on the front of this machine.
Evidently, the larger rear spare is for the rear wheels while the smaller spare located near the front is for the front wheels. I will check to find out if the mounts for either of the spares appear to be home made of it they came from Galion. The engine hood is missing but I suspect a regular Model L Case tractor hood will fit this machine. The engine is gray in color and appears to never have been over painted like the rest of the Case tractor has (please note the exposed gray paint on the front of the fuel tank). Perhaps the engine in this machine was transplanted at some time from a gray Model L Case farm tractor.
Those Model L Case farm tractors would have been very common back when this machine was being used. This machine is located about 200 miles north of where I live here in Bozeman so I can't just run and look at it if you have any questions I can not answer. I will probably make trips to that area every week or two at the most this time of the year. I have been collecting cars, trucks, tractors, toys, signs and many other items for over 50 years now.
I can never recall seeing another Galion grader like this with the "Double Drive" tandem drive wheels. This may be a very rare machine so please give some very serious thought to purchasing it if you are a collector of Case tractors or road graders in general.
