Rare Vox model UL4120 hybrid tube/solid-state amplifier head made in England in 1966, with flight case. These models were produced for a very short period of time in the mid-1960's, with the "4" series solid-state preamp combined with the 120-watt, 4 x KT88-equiped power amp being the rarest version. Estimates put the surviving number of 4120 amps at between 4 and 7 units worldwide. The 4 & 7-series amplifiers were used extensively by the Beatles during the recording sessions for the Revolver album and beyond. The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd were also users of this short-lived amp line.

The 4120 model was also a favorite amplifier of Jimmy Page during the early years of Led Zeppelin, and there has been speculation about its probable use on Led Zeppelin II. This amp has been used sparingly over the years, and has not been restored.

It shows minor legacy repairs at the pilot lights, and some passive components, but it still retains its original transformers, date-coded pots and "mustard" caps, electrolytic filter capacitors, and even has its full complement of vintage Mullard and GEC/Gold Lion tubes: (4 x KT88, 1 x EL84, 1 x ECL86). Although this amplifier has a selector for the various input voltages, it has always been operated on the 245V setting with a step-up. There is some low-level hum, (both 60hz and 120z), most likely due to its aging original electrolytic capacitors, inadequate shielding, and less-than-ideal grounding scheme, but it plays strong and loud into both 8 and 16-ohm speaker loads, switchable on the rear panel. The AC connector was replaced with a modern IEC receptacle at some point, once the original style connector was outlawed in the UK. The control knobs are the correct originals, but the two nearest the pilot lights are a slight variation from the others.

The potentiometers all function, with occasional noise and scratchiness, and the "Boost", (barely perceptible), switches are occasionally intermittent. This amplifier, (#0213), has been fully accounted for in the book Vox Amplifiers The JMI Years by Jim Elyea.
