It's version 2 of the mixer, and includes a roadcase and the MY16-AT ADAT expansion card. All 17 faders (16 channel/send/sub, 1 master) are motorized and the motors are working smoothly and strongly. The control screen is functioning as it should. Note: this is the v2 of the mixer, not the "i" version, not the "VCM" version.I used this mixer lightly to mix FOH, and for mobile recording via a Digidesign 002r. It worked great for both applications. Most of its life has been spent in the included road case in a smoke free home. For full specs, check out Yamaha's website, and if you're serious about using this to its fullest potential, be sure to download the manual; it's a serious mixer with a lot of possibilities, and a good deal of complexity.
As a live mixer, it's awesome. Full dynamics and 4 band parametric EQ on every one of its 32 inputs (mix'n' match: 12 mic/line, 4 line, up to 24 via ADAT and 2 via SPDIF).Outputs: XLR stereo analog outs for mains, and 4 omni outs (analog) for monitors. If you need more, you can get that via either ADAT or SPDIF. Total of 8 sends, 8 groups. Outputs also have EQ and dynamics.
Oh, and 4 stereo effects engines! Stereo channels can be paired easily, and groups can be setup quickly for things like drums and vocal submixes. Grab one fader in the group, and all the other grouped faders will motor into position! For recording, it's super flexible: you can pick off up to 26 digital direct outputs preEQ, postEQ, or post fader via ADAT or SPDIF. AND also use the USB output to control 16 DAW faders and various user defined functions, transport, save, undo, etc.
In ProTools this emulates a pair of HUI units, which is how I used it. You can also deep-dive into it to control other software. To control a DAW, you do need to download and install Yamaha's USB to MIDI driver for your mac or PC. I also used this to record simultaneously when mixing live: up to 32 inputs into the mixer for FOH mixing, and then lightpipe/SPDIF out for up to 26 record channels, which were set to pre-EQ so the FOH mix wouldn't mess with the recording levels.
I used an RME hdsp9652 for this, but any capable soundcard should do the trick.
